Charltons Ringcraft Training Day 16th May 2009

A very successful training day was held on Saturday 16th May, when the sun even decided to shine on us.
Nine students of varying ages, juniors and adults, took part. They were given intensive individual training on all aspects of handling required for entry into Junior and Adult handling classes. The instructors for this part of the day were two highly successful junior handlers, Amelia Siddle and Zane Heather.
The two handling sessions were separated by an excellent talk on the Kennel Club Points of a Dog. This can be a boring subject, but not on this occasion, as it was brought to life by our instructor Jane Tucker. She explained the reasons why although the points are basically the same for all dogs, individual breeds do differ structurally to meet the requirements of the job they are born to do. She elaborated on this with reference to differences amongst working gundogs, sight hounds and hunting dogs.
We finished this session with a demonstration of how a judge uses his or her hands on a dog to feel the conformation. Everyone had an opportunity to feel this for themselves on three different breeds.
Our grateful thanks go to all the instructors for giving up their time.
Hopefully if there is a demand for another of these sessions we would be able to arrange it in the future.
Angela
